Trusting There Will Always Be Enough

This past week I was sick with the flu. It zaps your energy, appetite and fluids. As a breastfeeding mother this can wreak havoc on feedings. Being the sole source of nutrition for Josiah it is quite amazing but daunting. This little one depends totally on me to get what he needs. I had taken for granted the provision God had given us and was acutely aware of it this weekend. My supply was totally depleted and I was just not producing. Up until Saturday we managed quite well. Then he went through a growth spurt, overtired day. All he wanted was to nurse and it just was not coming fast enough for him. By late afternoon I knew that he was overtired but I was also concerned that he wasn't getting much. I knew that if he would only go to sleep for awhile and stay off from nursing for one full feeding period I would be able to satisfy him but he just would not go to sleep. So I was faced with the possibility of having to give him formula until my supply could be built up again. When Noah went down for his nap Josiah and I headed to Wal-Mart for groceries but to also get some baby food. I would first try to give him a bit of cereal before going to formula. On the way to Wal-Mart he fell asleep and slept the entire 2 hours we were out. Thank you Lord! When he woke he was a happy boy and a patient one. He nursed well when we got back, but he still was a bit fussy so we decided to give him a taste of cereal. This is a photo of it. He didn't quite know what to do but he liked to hold the spoon.
